After approval by the Board, a supervising physician may use the services of a physician assistant (PA) in accordance with a practice agreement. If the relationship is currently filed as a practice agreement (submitted in 2012 or later), the attending physician must submit the details of the update online. The Board will send written confirmation to the supervising physician and the PA of the updated practice agreement. COVID-19 Waiver: The OMB waived 8-hour surveillance requirements for physician assistants for months when Oregon is in a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In this emergency situation, supervising physicians do not have to submit a letter requesting the waiver. A “practice agreement” is a written agreement between a physician assistant and a supervising physician or organization (PAHO) that describes what the physician assistant will practice and how he or she will practice. The practice contract must be submitted to the board of directors within 10 days of the start of the practice by the physician`s assistant. You may submit, modify or terminate a Practice Agreement by logging into licensee`s Services and selecting “Practice Agreements”. Both the attending physician and the PA must declare the end of an online supervision relationship within 15 days of the end of the monitoring. If the initial termination report is prepared by the regulator or PA, both parties will be notified by email that a termination report has been initiated and the other party will be invited to submit an independent termination report (see OAR 847-050-0050). If the relationship is currently filed as a working description (approved before 2012), it must be terminated (see Termination of supervisory relationship below) and a new practice contract must be submitted (see above). NEW: To request an exemption from the 8-hour on-site supervision requirement, a supervising physician may submit a letter indicating the need for the waiver and a statement of the nature and competence of the physician assistant.
If the following conditions are met, the Board may issue an exemption so that the PA and the attending physician can meet monthly using synchronous technology and not in person: If the PA is supervised by an Organization of Supervising Physicians (PAOs), the designated Senior Supervising Physician must submit, amend and terminate the Practice Agreement. Log in to Licensee Services and select “Practice Agreements” to submit a termination report. .
